Schedule Instagram Reels: 3 Ways Compared (2026)
Scott Fensome4 min read
You can schedule Instagram Reels in three ways: inside the Instagram app, in Meta Business Suite, or through a third party scheduler that uses Instagram's publishing API. The app lets a public account schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days in advance, which is enough for most people.
Schedule a Reel in the Instagram app
Instagram's own Help Centre says you need a public account, and that you can schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days ahead. Scheduled content keeps the privacy and audience settings you had when you scheduled it.
- Tap Create, then tap Reel.
- Pick your video and tap Next.
- Add your caption, effects or filters.
- Tap More options.
- Turn on Schedule this reel and choose a date and time.
- Tap Done, then Back.
- Tap Schedule.
Some features do not work with scheduled content: product tagging, collaborative posts, sponsored posts and fundraisers. If you need a collab Reel, post it live.
A note on the window: plenty of older guides still say 75 days. The current Help Centre page (checked October 2026) says 30 days, so plan on 30.
Edit or move a scheduled Reel
Go to your profile, tap Menu, then under Your insights and tools tap Scheduled content. Tap Options next to the Reel and you get four choices: Delete, Edit post, Reschedule or Share now. You can reach the same list from the Create screen by tapping Scheduled.
Schedule Instagram Reels in Meta Business Suite
Business Suite works on desktop, which helps if your edits live on a computer.
- Open Meta Business Suite and click Create reel (from the home page or the Content tab).
- Under Post to, choose your Instagram profile. You can pick your Facebook Page too.
- Add your video, choose a thumbnail and write the caption.
- Choose to schedule, pick the date and time, and click Schedule.
You need full control of the account or content permission for it. Two limits apply to Instagram here: you cannot make a Reel from photos, and you cannot use the Business Suite editor on a video when posting to Instagram. Meta's Help Centre does not state a maximum scheduling window for Instagram Reels in Business Suite, so check the date picker rather than trusting a number from a blog.
Business Suite also has a bulk upload tool, but Meta says those reels go to your Facebook Page only, not Instagram.
Schedule Reels with a third party tool
Schedulers post through Meta's Instagram API. Four rules apply before you connect anything.
- Account type. The API only works with professional accounts (Business or Creator). If the tool connects through Facebook Login, the Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook Page. If it uses Instagram Login, no Page is needed. See Business or Creator for the API and how to link Instagram to a Facebook Page.
- No native schedule field. Meta's publishing docs do not offer a "publish at" time for Instagram. An upload container expires if it is not published within 24 hours, so a scheduler has to keep your video and publish it at the chosen moment.
- Daily cap. Meta's content publishing guide says 100 API published posts per rolling 24 hours, but its carousel section and the reference page for the limit endpoint say 50. The two docs disagree. On our own accounts in October 2026 the endpoint reported 100. Full detail in Instagram API publishing limits.
- File rules. Through the API a Reel can be 3 seconds to 15 minutes, up to 300 MB, MP4 or MOV, 23 to 60 frames per second. Captions can be up to 2,200 characters with at most 30 hashtags and 20 @ tags.
Which method suits you
| Method | Daily limit | How far ahead | Needs | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram app | 25 posts a day | 30 days | Public account | One account, phone workflow |
| Meta Business Suite | Not published | Not published for Instagram | Full control or content permission | Desktop edits, Instagram plus Facebook |
| API scheduler | 100 per 24 hours (docs also say 50) | Set by the tool | Professional account | Several platforms from one upload |
If you only post to Instagram, the app is fine. If the same video is going to Facebook as well, a scheduler saves uploading twice. That is what Reel Uploader does: you upload once and it publishes to Instagram Reels and Facebook Reels on a schedule, one post at a time, with a daily limit per account. Snapchat is coming once Snap approves the app.
Before you fill a month of slots, read whether scheduling hurts reach and pick times from the best time to post Reels. For the bigger picture, start with the guide to cross posting short videos.
Questions people ask
Can I schedule Reels without a professional account?
In the app, Instagram's Help Centre says a public account is required. Third party schedulers are different: the API only supports professional accounts.
How many Reels can I schedule at once?
The app allows up to 25 posts a day. Instagram does not publish a total cap on how many can sit in your scheduled list.
Can I schedule a collab Reel?
Not in the app. Instagram lists collaborative posts as not compatible with scheduled content.
Can I change the caption after scheduling?
Yes. Open Scheduled content, tap Options on the Reel and choose Edit post.
