Link Instagram to a Facebook Page: Steps (2026)
Scott Fensome5 min read
In the Instagram app, go to your profile, tap Edit profile, tap Page, then Connect or create and pick your Facebook Page. On a computer you can do it from the Facebook side instead: switch into the Page, open Settings, and under Permissions click Linked accounts, then Instagram.
Both routes need the same two things: an Instagram professional account and proper access to the Page. The menu names below are taken from Meta's own help centres, checked in October 2026.
What you need before you link
Meta's Business Help Centre lists three requirements:
- A professional Instagram account, either business or creator. If you start with a personal account, Meta says you will be prompted to switch during the linking process.
- Full control of the Facebook Page. The Facebook Help Centre puts it slightly differently and says Facebook access or task access to the Page is enough to connect. If the Page does not show up in the list, your access level is the first thing to check.
- The same business portfolio. If you use business portfolios, the Instagram account has to sit in the same portfolio as the Page. An Instagram account can only be in one portfolio at a time, so you may need to remove it from an old one first.
One thing to know before switching: if your personal account is private, Instagram says switching to professional makes it public and automatically accepts all pending follow requests.
Switch to a professional account first
If you are still on a personal account, do this before anything else. From Instagram's help centre:
- Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
- Tap More to open Settings and activity.
- Below For professionals, tap Account type and tools.
- Tap Switch to professional account.
- Pick a category. Instagram notes the category does not decide whether you get a business or creator account.
- Choose Creator or Business, then tap Next.
Instagram will offer to connect a Facebook Page during this setup. You can tap Skip and do it later with the steps below. Not sure which type to choose? See business or creator for API posting.
Link from the Instagram app
These are the current steps from the Meta Business Help Centre:
- Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
- Tap Edit profile.
- With a business account, scroll to Public business information. With a creator account, scroll to Profile information.
- Tap Page, then tap Connect or create.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap Log in to Facebook, then tap Continue to review the Facebook account. Tap Switch Facebook account if you need a different one.
- Choose the Page and tap Connect, or tap Create a new Facebook Page.
If you choose an existing Page you may be asked to log in to your personal Facebook account. Meta describes this as a required check that your Facebook account really has access to the Page.
Link from Facebook on a computer
The Facebook Help Centre gives this route, which suits people who manage the Page on desktop:
- Log in to Facebook and click your profile photo in the top right.
- Click See all profiles, then select the Page.
- Click the Page's profile picture in the top right.
- Click Settings and privacy, then Settings.
- Under Permissions, click Linked accounts.
- Click Instagram.
- Click Connect account and follow the steps.
What changes once they are linked
According to Meta's help pages, once the accounts are connected:
- Anyone with access to either the Page or the Instagram account can manage both. Think about who has Page roles before you link.
- You can manage Instagram comments and Direct messages from the Page inbox, if you allow it.
- You can share Instagram posts to the Page, and only to that Page. Meta says you cannot share to another Page or a personal profile while linked.
- People with the right Page access can run Instagram ads from Facebook.
- The connection between the Instagram account and the Page may be visible to others.
Why the link matters for scheduling and API posting
Meta's developer docs describe two ways for an app to post to Instagram. With Instagram Login, the professional account does not need a Page. With Facebook Login, the docs say the Instagram professional account must be connected to a Facebook Page, and the person connecting must be able to do admin level tasks on that Page.
There is one more catch in the content publishing docs. If the linked Page requires Page Publishing Authorization, the Instagram account cannot be published to until that is completed. If a scheduler keeps failing on an account that looks correctly linked, check the Page for a pending authorization.
For what happens after the link is working, read Instagram API publishing limits and how to schedule Instagram Reels.
How to disconnect or change the Page
In the Instagram app, go to your profile and Edit profile, scroll to Public business information (business) or Profile information (creator), tap Page, then tap Disconnect Page. To move to a different Page, disconnect and then connect again.
On Facebook, follow the desktop steps above to Linked accounts, click Instagram, click Disconnect account and confirm with Yes, disconnect.
Meta warns that disconnecting can, in some cases, cancel an active Meta Verified subscription tied to the Page and account. Switching the Instagram account back to personal also disconnects any linked Page.
If the Page does not appear or linking fails
- Page missing from the list: you are probably logged in to a Facebook account without enough access to that Page.
- Portfolio mismatch: move the Instagram account into the same business portfolio as the Page.
- Personal account: switch to professional first, then link.
- A specific error code: Meta keeps a separate help article for error 2534013, linked from the bottom of its connection guide.
Reel Uploader connects Instagram through Facebook Login, so your account must be professional and linked to a Page before it can post. Sort this link first. The full picture of posting one video everywhere is in the cross posting guide.
Questions people ask
Can a creator account be linked to a Facebook Page?
Yes. Meta's help centre covers both business and creator accounts. The only difference is where the Page option sits in Edit profile: Public business information for business, Profile information for creator.
Will linking make my Instagram account public?
Linking itself does not, but switching from a private personal account to a professional account does. Instagram also accepts all pending follow requests when that happens.
Do I need a Facebook Page to post to Instagram from an app?
Only if the app connects through Facebook Login. Meta's docs say apps using Instagram Login can serve professional accounts that have no Facebook Page.
Can I change which Page is linked later?
Yes. Disconnect the current Page from Edit profile, then connect the new one using the same steps.
