Facebook API Reels Limits: 30 a Day and More (2026)
Scott Fensome4 min read
Meta's Reels Publishing API lets each Facebook Page publish 30 Reels in a rolling 24 hours. Each Reel must be 3 to 90 seconds, and a scheduled Reel must be set more than 10 minutes and less than 29 days ahead.
The 30 Reels a day limit
Meta's docs say the Reels API is limited to 30 API published posts within a 24 hour moving period, enforced on POST /{page_id}/video_reels. Meta also tells apps to enforce this themselves, especially when users schedule posts ahead.
We hit this exact ceiling with our own uploader, so it is real. But reaching it is a bad idea on a small Page, as the section below shows.
Video specs for API Reels
| Setting | Meta's requirement |
|---|---|
| Length | 3 to 90 seconds |
| Resolution | 1080x1920 recommended, 540x960 minimum |
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 (see note below) |
| Frame rate | 24 to 60 fps |
| File | .mp4 recommended |
| Video codec | H.264 or H.265; VP9 and AV1 also supported |
| Audio | AAC Low Complexity, 48 kHz, stereo, 128 kbps or more |
Two inconsistencies in Meta's docs:
- The spec table says 9:16, but error 1363040 says aspect ratios need to be between 16x9 and 9x16. Stick with 9:16.
- Meta's Help Centre says that since June 2025 all Facebook videos are shared as reels and "can be any length or orientation". The API still enforces 3 to 90 seconds (error 1363128). Through the API, 90 seconds is the limit.

Scheduling through the API
Set video_state to SCHEDULED and pass scheduled_publish_time as a Unix timestamp. Meta requires it to be more than 10 minutes from now and within 29 days. A tool offering longer schedules must hold the file and send it later. Our own uploads matched this: Facebook would not accept a time more than about 29 days out.
Permissions and Page rules
- Facebook Login permissions: pages_show_list, pages_read_engagement and pages_manage_posts.
- A Page access token from a user who can perform the CREATE_CONTENT task on the Page.
- Reels can only be published to Pages, not profiles or groups through this API.
- Privacy must be Public.
- Your app must show users a sharing disclosure when they upload a Reel.
- Collaborator invitations are capped at 10 per Page per 24 hours.
Upload rules
The flow has three calls: start (returns a video_id and upload URL), upload (a local file or a hosted file_url), then finish with a video_state of DRAFT, SCHEDULED or PUBLISHED.
Hosted files are rejected if the host blocks Facebook's crawler in robots.txt, if the URL needs authentication, or if it is on Meta's own CDN (fbcdn). For video already on Facebook, Meta says to use crossposting instead.
Call rate limits
Separate from the 30 Reels cap, Page calls made with a Page token fall under Meta's Business Use Case limit: 4800 multiplied by the number of people who engaged with the Page in 24 hours. Hitting it returns error 80001. A small Page with few engaged users has a small call budget, and every status check counts towards it.
The limit the API will not tell you about
A brand new Page we ran (created 27 September 2026, about 20 followers) was sent 25 to 30 Reels a day through the API, many scheduled weeks ahead. The first few Reels got 12 to 21 views each; within about a week new ones got 0 to 2 views, and later 0. The Page appeared to be limited as spam.
Facebook's API has no field that shows a Page restriction. Only the Page owner can see it, in Page status or the Professional dashboard. So an app can stay inside every documented limit and still damage the Page. We deleted all scheduled posts and paused automation.
If you think this has happened to you, see Facebook Reels getting zero views and how to check and appeal a restricted Page. For a sensible pace, read how often to post Reels on a new Page.
Reel Uploader posts one Reel at a time with a daily limit per account. For scheduling without code, see how to schedule Facebook Reels, and for the multi platform picture, the guide to cross posting short videos.
Questions people ask
How many Reels can I post to a Facebook Page through the API?
30 per Page in a rolling 24 hours, according to Meta's Reels Publishing API docs.
What is the maximum length of a Facebook Reel through the API?
90 seconds. The minimum is 3 seconds. Meta's Help Centre says reels can be any length, but the API docs still state 3 to 90 seconds.
Can I schedule a Reel more than 29 days ahead?
Not on Facebook's side. scheduled_publish_time must be within 29 days.
Will the API warn me if my Page is restricted?
No. There is no API field for it. Check Page status or the Professional dashboard yourself.
