Daily Posting Limits for New Accounts (2026)
Scott Fensome4 min read
The only published daily posting limits are API caps: 30 Reels per Facebook Page and 100 posts per Instagram account (50 on some Meta pages) in any rolling 24 hours. None of the Meta or Snap documentation we checked gives a separate, lower limit for new accounts, and no platform publishes how many posts a day is safe for reach.
The limits that are actually published
| Platform | Limit | Window | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Reels (API) | 30 published Reels per Page | Rolling 24 hours | Meta Reels Publishing API |
| Facebook Reels (API) scheduling | More than 10 minutes and up to 29 days ahead | Per post | Meta Reels Publishing API |
| Instagram (API) | 100 published posts per account (50 in other sections), carousels count as one | Rolling 24 hours | Meta Content Publishing docs |
| Instagram captions (API) | 2,200 characters, 30 hashtags, 20 @ tags | Per post | IG User Media reference |
| Instagram captions (app) | Rolling out to a maximum of 5 hashtags | Per post | Instagram @creators, Dec 2025 |
| Snapchat Spotlight (API) | No daily limit stated | n/a | Snap Profile Asset Management docs |
Meta's own Instagram guide is not fully consistent: the rate limit section says 100 posts per 24 hours, while the carousel section and the content_publishing_limit reference say 50. Meta says to check the live figure with that endpoint. On our accounts in October 2026, that endpoint reported a quota of 100. Our Instagram API publishing limits and Facebook API Reels limits posts go deeper.
Are there lower limits for new accounts?
Not that any platform publishes. We searched Meta's developer docs, Facebook's Help Centre and Snap's developer docs and found no rule that says a new account may post fewer times a day than an old one.
What Meta does publish is a behaviour rule. Its spam policy bans "posting, sharing, engaging with content or creating accounts, Groups, Pages, Events or other assets, either manually or automatically, at very high frequencies." It also says Meta "may place restrictions on accounts that are acting at lower frequencies when other indicators of Spam (e.g., posting repetitive content) or signals of inauthenticity are present." No number is given for "very high".
In practice, that unpublished threshold is the one that matters, and it is far below the API cap.
What happened on our new Page
A Facebook Page of Scott's, created on 27 September 2026 with about 20 followers, was sent 25 to 30 Reels a day by API. That is inside the published limit of 30. Many of the Reels were scheduled weeks ahead.
- The first few Reels got 12 to 21 views each.
- Within about a week, new Reels got 0 to 2 views.
- Later, new Reels got 0.
The Page appeared to have been limited as spam. Publishing kept succeeding throughout, so staying under the API limit gave no warning at all. The only signs were in Page status and the Professional dashboard. We deleted every scheduled post and paused automated posting.
The lesson: an API cap tells you what the system will accept, not what is safe. See how often to post Reels on a new Page and, if it has already happened, the Facebook Reels zero views checklist.
Other limits that catch people out
Facebook link posts (test)
In December 2025 Meta confirmed a test in which some professional mode profiles and Facebook Pages without Meta Verified could only post two links unless they paid for Meta Verified (several outlets reported it as two per month). Meta called it "a limited test". Links in comments were not affected.
Instagram hashtags
Instagram's @creators account said in December 2025 that it "will gradually update the number of hashtags that you can include in a caption for a reel or post to five." The API reference still lists 30.
Snapchat Spotlight
Snap's Public Profile API documentation lists no daily posting count. It does say every new Spotlight starts as SUBMITTED and must be approved before it goes LIVE, so a Spotlight is reviewed before anyone sees it. Spotlight via API must be an MP4 of 6 to 60 seconds, at least 540x960, with a description of up to 160 characters. Snapchat's Business Manager dashboard told us in October 2026 that Story and Spotlight posts can be scheduled up to 30 days ahead in Profile Manager. More in Snapchat Spotlight requirements.
A practical daily limit for a new account
This is our opinion after the Page above, not a platform rule.
- Set your own cap far below the API limit. We would start at one to three a day.
- Spread posts through the day rather than releasing a batch.
- Keep the calendar short at first: a few days ahead, not 29.
- Raise the cap slowly, only while views hold up.
- Set the cap per account, so every Page and profile has its own ceiling.
The posting planner works out how long your queue lasts at a given daily cap. Reel Uploader lets you set a daily limit per account and posts one video at a time. For the whole multi platform workflow, see the cross posting short videos guide.
Questions people ask
What is the Facebook Reels daily limit?
Through the API, 30 published Reels per Page in a rolling 24 hours. Meta does not publish a limit for posting by hand in the app.
What is the Instagram daily posting limit?
Through the API, 100 published posts per account in a rolling 24 hours, though Meta's carousel section and limit endpoint reference say 50. Check your live quota with the content_publishing_limit endpoint.
Do new accounts have lower limits?
No platform we checked publishes one. Meta's spam policy is the real constraint: it bans posting at "very high frequencies" and does not define the number.
Does Snapchat limit Spotlight posts per day?
Snap's developer documentation does not state a daily limit. Every Spotlight is reviewed before it goes live.
